ANGEL OLSEN
If you enjoy powerful female rock singers in the like of PJ Harvey, you're sure to fall in love with Angel Olsen. Although she started off as your average indie folk singer, in 2016 she reinvented herself with her album 'My Woman', which is filled with bold lyrics, a fresh folk-rock sound and incredible vocal power. In an interview with Pitchfork, she explained that she got tired of her "sad country-folk girl lost in the forest" image that she was often criticized for, despite the power and quality of her early work. Right now, she is one of the most promising folk-rock artists in the indie scene with a wilder image that shines in the music video for her song Shut Up Kiss Me.
father john misty
Josh Tillman is known to be a controversial figure for how confrontational he can be in interviews, in live shows and with music critics, however, his musical talent overshadows this completely. When he left famous folk band Fleet Foxes and started his musical project under the name of Father John Misty, he composed melodious songs with strong ironic and romantic lyrics that earned him praise from critics and fans alike. His songs often treat big themes such as politics, social media, the emptiness of entertainment and celebrity culture with great humorous and ironic overtones. He's one of the most interesting acts of the moment.
courtney barnett
Courtney Barnett has been called by Rolling Stone magazine "one of rock's most beguiling young stars and deftest lyricists". She has great talent for writing dead-pan humor observations of banal details and also for playing some sick guitar riffs. She has a relaxed onstage presence that makes her seem as though she's improvising everything that she's singing. She's been praised for her comic honesty and her originality, being compared to greats like Patti Smith and even Bob Dylan. She's sure one of the most promising artists of the moment.
twin peaks
All of Twin Peaks members were just 19 when they broke out, how cool is that? They're a Chicago-based band with a classic garage rock sound that is just plain fun. They're usually very humorous and demand not to be taken too seriously. Their tracks are very nostalgic and invoke an old school rock 'n' roll feeling as well as a carefree teenage vibe. They might not be the most succesful and praised band right now, but they promise a lot for their raw talent and dedication.
the war on drugs
The War on Drugs was called by The New Yorker, "the best American rock band of the decade" and still, they remain criminally underrated and unknown to many fans of the genre. Their bright, soft sounding songs and intimate lyrics make it a band of masterful skill for both song-writing and recording in studio. Although they are heavily inspired by rock giants like Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Sonic Youth, the band sounds unique and brand new.
