ILIAS' PICKS

ALMOST BLUE

In one word, magnificent. The rhythm is really melodic. This song is pretty much the essence of jazz music. With this song, notable jazz musician Chet Baker created a wonderful jazz piece out of the original song written and performed by Elvis Costello and the Attractions (1982) featured in their sixth studio album 'Imperial Bedroom'. The song was unanimously praised by music critics for its lyrics, that compare a former relationship to a present one. Baker's instrumental jazz version of the song turns it into a much more moody and elegant  track.

take five

Take Five is one of the most famous jazz songs ever and one of the favorite tracks of the audience. Dave Brubeck managed to create a trascendent piece of jazz that still connects to listeners today. It is the biggest selling jazz song ever, it has been used on multiple movies and still receives significant radio airplay.

all blues

It first appeared on the album 'Kind of Blue' in 1959, which is an unique jazz composition created by Miles Davis. This track in particular has a length of 11:33 and distinguishes itself for its particular use of bass. This was the song that stigmatized the big career of Miles Davis.

my favorite things

It was composed for the Broadway musical 'The Sound of Music' by Rodgers & Hammerstein in 1959. This period musical was becoming a huge success at the time. This song became a hit when Julie Andrews sang it in the 1965 movie. John Coltrane was the artist that managed to translate it to jazz standards and make it even more famous all over the world.
